Crime & Forensics

The IJIS Institute and the National Forensic Science Technology Center (NFSTC) are working with state crime labs, law enforcement, and court professionals to create and implement national information sharing solutions—standards, architecture, exchange interfaces, and web services. The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) aims to heighten the accuracy and quality of forensic testing requests and dispositions through standardized forensic exchanges. Such exchanges will save valuable and limited crime lab, court, and investigation time and resources.

The IJIS Institute, in collaboration with the NFSTC and with assistance from the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission, has provided project planning and management expertise in developing FIDEX Submission and Disposition IEPDs. The IJIS Institute also provided project management support in creating a prototype web portal to pilot the FIDEX submission IEPD.

IJIS Institute member company and selected subcontractor, Waterhole Software, provides critical resources and expertise to the development of FIDEX Submission and Disposition IEPDs and pilot submissions. These IEPDs provide an automated and electronic mechanism for law enforcement to submit forensic requests to crime labs.
