National Information Exchange Model (NIEM)
The National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) is a partnership of the (DOJ) and (DHS), and enables information sharing, focusing on information exchanged among organizations as part of their current or intended business practices. NIEM expands the Global Justice XML Data Model (GJXDM) to address cross-domain information exchange activities. The current relevant domains include:
- Biometrics
- Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN)
- Children, Youth, and Family Services (CYFS)
- Cyber
- Emergency Management
- Human Services
- Immigration
- Infrastructure Protection
- Intelligence
- International Trade
- Justice
- Maritime
- Screening
The success and awareness of the NIEM program has increased the demand for assistance and support services as federal, state, local, and tribal agencies begin to define ways to advance information technology projects, and to advance the general level of knowledge of their staffs across a broad range of skill set areas. The IJIS Institute has developed partnerships between government and industry to provide training and technical assistance to support the successful adoption and use of NIEM.
