Technology Experts and Government Leaders to Gather

for IJIS Institute Opioid Summit

Technology Event will investigate the complex, cross-domain and cross-jurisdictional issues that challenge our response to the opioid crisis.

Ashburn, Virginia, Nov. 13, 2017—The IJIS Institutea nonprofit organization that focuses on mission-critical information sharing and innovative technologies—in conjunction with The Police Foundation, the National Fusion Center Association, the National Narcotics Officers Association, and Rutgers Police Institute will host technology leaders and justice and public health experts at a two-day summit. The Opioid Technology Summit, which was rescheduled from an earlier date, will be held on Dec. 4-5, 2017, at the Sheraton Hotel Tyson’s Corner, Virginia.

President Trump has declared the opioid epidemic a national health emergency. This epidemic is devastating families and communities, overwhelming medical providers and straining prevention and treatment efforts and resources. As the President so aptly described the problem, “Nobody is safe from this epidemic that threatens young and old, rich and poor, urban and rural communities.  Everybody is threatened.“

Ashwini Jarral, executive director of the IJIS Institute, stated “At the center of our responses to this crisis are information and data needs, sharing, and coordinated responses and mechanisms. Justice and public health practitioners and industry must work collaboratively to find solutions that address the complex, cross-domain and cross-jurisdictional issues that challenge our response to the opioid crisis.” Jarral emphasized, “Together, the technology industry and government can help turn the tide on this epidemic.”

The Opioid Technology Summit is a two-day Summit to address some of the most challenging barriers to responding to and resolving the opioid crisis. The Summit will provide an opportunity for practitioners and industry experts to work together in exploring the intersection of public safety and public health and how these diverse areas can come together to create technology solutions addressing the opioid crisis.

Government practitioners from the justice and public health community working on the opioid crisis are invited to attend free of charge. Industry attendance is only available through sponsorships. The registration link is http://www.ijis.org/events/EventDetails.aspx?id=1015127&group=.
