IBIA Announces Strategic Partnership with IJIS

The International Biometrics + Identity Association (IBIA) has announced a Strategic Alliance Agreement (SAA) with the Integrated Justice Information Systems (IJIS) Institute and its first undertaking -- the formation of the Biometrics Task Force.
In a statement, the IBIA notes that this task force, comprised of leading technology providers and users, will address the important and timely issues related to biometric technology use in the public sector.Managing Director of IBIA, Tovah LaDier, said, "IBIA looks forward to working with the IJIS Institute to help educate the public and policymakers about biometric technologies and their uses and benefits. Together we will inform conversations in the public sphere about appropriate uses and related privacy and other matters."
Ashwini Jarral, the IJIS Institute's Executive Director, noted, "IJIS Institute's mission is to drive public sector technology innovation and empower information sharing to promote safer and healthier communities. We identified biometrics as one of the key technologies that is relevant in the public sector but not widely understood."
Mr. Jarral adds that "Educating the public sector, and the public-sector solution providers, about biometrics policy, technology, and processes is a perfect job for the jointly-developed IBIA-IJIS Biometrics Task Force."
Two prominent experts are the Task Force co-chairs: Benji Hutchinson, Vice President of Federal Operations, Advanced Recognition Systems Division, NEC Corporation of America; and Michael Kato, Vice President of Public Security, Law Enforcement Programs, IDEMIA.
