- Our Work
The IJIS Institute sponsors Technology Summits to focus on technology innovation and information sharing and safeguarding relative to a specific technology, issue, or domain.
Privacy Technology Summit
The IJIS Institute conducted a special Privacy Summit in conjunction with the 2018 National Symposium. The privacy issues discussed were related to biometrics, cell phones, facial recognition, other innovative technologies and associated information. The Summit participants examined the use and exchange of personally identifiable information (PII) in the context of information systems and in the dissemination and aggregation of that data. More privacy summits are expected to be held in future years.
Opioid Technology Summit
The Opioid Technology Summit occurred in 2017 and was hosted in conjunction with our partners the National Narcotics Officers Association (NNOA), the Police Foundation (PF), The Police Institute at Rutgers University and the National Fusion Center Association (NFCA). The Summit provided an opportunity for top government practitioners and industry experts to work together in exploring the intersection of public safety and public health and how these diverse areas can come together to explore technology solutions addressing the opioid crisis. Attendees included government practitioners from across the country including Los Angeles (CA), New Mexico, Fairfax County (VA), Montgomery County (MD), New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania, just to name a few.
Courts Industry Summit
The Courts Industry Summit, jointly hosted by the IJIS Institute and the National Center for State Courts (NCSC), provides an opportunity for Industry technology leaders to engage in a free flowing discussion with representatives from the NCSC, and the leaders of the Conference of State Court Administrators (COSCA), National Association for Court Management (NACM) and Court Information Technology Officer Consortium (CITOC.) The event is facilitated by the IJIS Institute’s Courts Advisory Committee with the objective of providing industry with insights on the technology needs of the courts likely to emerge over the next five years.
The third and most recent Courts Industry Summit was held September 17-18, 2018, and plans are underway for the next event. Industry participation is available through sponsorship of the Summit. If you are interested in sponsoring the next Courts Industry Summit, please contact email@example.com.
Corrections Leadership Technology Forum
The Corrections Leadership Technology Forum brings together state corrections administrators, corrections CIOs, probation administrators and technologists, and a limited number of sponsoring industry representatives to engage in direct dialog about current information sharing initiatives and solutions and solutions on the horizon.
Funding for this Leadership Forum comes entirely from industry sponsorship fees which cover the travel costs for practitioner attendees and associated meeting costs. Industry participation is available through supporting sponsorships. The size of the events is intentionally limited in order to ensure there is ample opportunity for rich dialog and learning.
The 2017 Corrections Technology Forum was attended by correctional leaders and technologists from 15 state corrections agencies, 5 community corrections agencies, and 5 large jail systems. Partnering organizations included the Association of State Correctional Administrators (ASCA), American Jail Association (AJA), the American Correctional Association (ACA), the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA), and the Corrections Technology Association (CTA).
